Part 3: You can provide discounts on drugs not on the list of CMS approved drugs for Part D.

What is the best Part D drug plan on the market? While many carriers lay claim to having the best formulary, lowest co-pays, some level of coverage in the donut hole (also referred to as the coverage gap), in the end, the best solution covers your client’s drugs. If a drug is not covered by the plan, it can dramatically increase the out-of-pocket costs for your client.

But what options do you have if no Part D plan covers your client’s drug because the drug is not approved by CMS? There are certain classifications of drugs that CMS hasn’t approved meaning no Part D coverage is available. These include:

Drugs not approved for Part D

Weight Loss/Gain

Hair Growth

Over-the-Counter

Barbiturates

Benzodiazepines

Cold Relief

Fertility

Fortunately, there are solutions available. Remember the discount cards that were available prior to Part D? They remain available for drugs not approved by CMS for the Prescription Drug Program. Let’s take Benzodiazepines as an example. Valium, Stesolid, Diazemuls, Seduxen, Bosaurin, Diapam, Antenex, Ducene, Apozepam and Pax are all brand name drugs for Diazepam which is a Benzodiazepine. The cost for these drugs can be quite expensive. Retail cost for Valium is roughly $250 per month.

Senior Market Sales, Inc. offers a prescription drug savings card from ScriptSave® that provides savings to seniors for these non-covered drugs. The sales process is easy. Simply go to http://www.smsrxcard.com/ and generate a No Cost ScriptSave® card for your client. If your Clients have Medicare and are enrolled in a Medicare Part D plan, they can use their ScriptSave® card for everyone in their household and for any prescriptions that are EXCLUDED by Medicare Part D law. Clients will receive average savings of 22%, with potential savings of up to 50% (based on national program savings data).

The ScriptSave® card is accepted at over 53,000 retail pharmacy locations. Here is a partial list of participating pharmacies:
