Aetna announced earlier this week an agreement to buy Genworth Financial’s Medicare Supplement business, which is underwritten by Continental Life. The deal is reportedly worth about $290 million.

The acquisition will add approximately 145,000 Medicare Supplement policyholders in 39 states to the 10,000 that Aetna has already, and it will expand Aetna’s presence to states like Kansas, Missouri, New Jersey and Wisconsin.

We’ll release more details on Aetna’s Med Supp business when they’re available.

Aetna also announced this week that CMS has lifted the sanctions on their Medicare Advantage Part D business.
