Iceland Volcano Cloud: Nature's Advertisement for Travel Insurance

Iceland's volcanic eruption had numerous negative effects on the travel industry: $1 billion in financial losses, ruined trip plans for thousands of people around the world. But it did have one positive: it raised awareness among travelers of the benefits of travel insurance.

Many travelers who had plans to fly across the Atlantic saw their plans go up in ash with the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull (which means “I’d like to buy a vowel, please” in Icelandic). Many others were stuck abroad, paying for extra meals and nights in a hotel. If those people bought travel insurance that covers trip delays, cancellations and unforeseen events, like volcanoes, they will be fully or partially reimbursed.
