We are hearing everyday from agents asking what is going to happen in 2014. Earlier conversations were reported in Washington about adding higher deductibles, surcharging Medicare beneficiaries if their plan includes first dollar coverage. Trust me, nothing has been etched in stone about any of these ideas, they are just someone in Congress putting another bill before congress that will not make it to the floor.
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners will be the ones that will design the new plans (under suggestion of Congress) and when they reach agreement, Congress must pass the law. The 2010 update waited 4 years for Congress to respond.
There are two excellent articles concerning this subject. The first can be found by clicking here, another is testimony on the Medicare Payment Advisory commission’s (MedPAC) June Report to the Congress from the Medicare Rights Center.
