SMS' LTC Expert Weighs in on Retirement Radio Show

Our National Long-term Care Sales Director, Skip Liddell, was recently interviewed by Kristen Charles and Darrell Bryant of KFAB radio in Omaha for a show called “Stress Free Retirement.” The show focused on the need for long-term care insurance, costs and trends with vendors leaving the market.

Liddell talked about LTC as being an event — not a place.

“Most people think of LTC as the nursing home. Back in the 70s, the policy that was sold was called the nursing home policy,” Liddell said. He went on to stress that today’s retiree’s need to think beyond nursing home confinement and consider situations where even one year of at-home care could seriously cripple their retirement plans — Liddell also noted an alarming statistic that 70% of the population is going to have a need for some kind of LTC, so the common objection of "it is too expensive, it’s not worth it" could be turned around to say: If you don’t have it — it’s even more expensive.
