When Travel Insurance Hits Home: Part 2

You may recall reading an article I wrote last October, called "When Travel Insurance Hits Home." It was about my older brother buying a travel insurance policy for a trip to Mexico in February 2015. His wife had just begun chemo treatments.

As fate would have it, my brother called me Jan. 12 to inform me that they would not be able to take their trip. Medical procedures had been scheduled for the day before they were to depart. His words to me were, "that's why we bought the travel insurance." So the trip has been cancelled, the claims paperwork will be filed, and the trip cost indemnity refund check will be mailed to them.

My brother's approach to the situation has been stoic. He said, "We'll get past this and then book another trip." Then he changed the subject completely and said, "Hey, are we getting together again to watch the Daytona 500? I think it's Feb. 22."

I'm happy they purchased travel insurance. But I'll be a heck of lot happier to get some good news next time.
